When I walked into the room on orientation day, I was a little bit intimidated - there were a lot of people I didn’t know in one room. The next day I had my first day of classes; not as many people, but still people I didn’t know. I was a little nervous being in a new environment – meeting new people isn’t my strong suit – but as I moved forward into the semester I realized how close MBM students are as a group. The open mics are a great example of the atmosphere within the program; everyone is supportive of each other, and I like to be a part of that. The professors are nice people who care about their students and want them to succeed.
Now that first semester is over, along with the fact that I understand the layout of the campus, I am greatly anticipating next semester and what it may bring. Getting to know more people in the program excites me, which is completely different to my mindset at the start of the year. I am ready for the classes coming my way, especially the second semester of CENT. Now that I know my role as an artist manager, I am very excited to continue in it.
I feel as though I am growing as a student, as well as a person. I also feel that I am becoming more prepared for a career in the industry I want to work in so badly: the Canadian music industry. There is a lot of work to be done within the next few months (and years). After my first semester at Durham College however, I am feeling more inspired than ever to do well.
